The secure supply of fish and the size of the exclusive fishing zone allow up to 2 million tonnes of fish caught in total, with Atlantic Cod being the most highly prized and important catch.
Iceland’s medicinal and medical product turnover has been consistently increasing over the last 10 years, with products such as medical software and diagnostic technology being exported. However it is in the area of Prosthetic devices that Iceland has become a world leader over the last few years in particular.
Aluminium production is one of the industries in Iceland that is geared for the export market with large scale plants. Aluminium now accounts for nearly 20% of the county’s commodities and manufacturing exports.
Due to the level of education of computer and I.T. specialists, Iceland has become internationally recognised as leaders within the field. The majority of software developed is in the medical industry and also in fishing.
Over the last few years there has been a huge increase in the export of Icelandic Horses. Not only are they easy to handle and intelligent but their strength and sure-footedness have made them increasing popular within the horse sport and racing industries.
